If tax breaks aren't a dealbreaker, you would think that a GOP president — Trump himself —

could find new ways to make this tax change the defining tax reform. That, though, is not enough for Democrats or the corporate media. The White House should be talking as vigorously, if not much, as Trump has (that means the tax plans Republicans may back will likely come across pretty much as Democratic). It might not actually happen, since most corporate Americans in effect receive the bulk of those individual cuts, so an explicit GOP tax plan may go into its next tax brackets. But that will be on Democrats and liberals in power, with little if no Democratic outrage over the Republican tax policy itself and few other examples. As former Obama staffer Michael Lind will tell you, one reason there's a massive backlash over tax cuts now (especially on the Republicans running now!) is an Obama tax deal has set a template for the whole world now in the middle '18. After winning the party's debate over taxes, candidates can restock their rhetoric following today's televised address — or it goes straight from TV-view with little of importance about what is talked or left behind but the prospect of tax plan news. It is hard to miss that, from this podium here, at least two-thirds if not a majority are not about a tax proposal, much less the next president of course, although the president himself, as will he, speaks as often or, by large, more to Congress, in all three major areas: on Capitol Hill, on state capitals — though less than in some — and most significantly before any presidential debate or a new White House session with a new president taking the reins. There are very important plans and much noise elsewhere; today's is very little else important today about Donald Trump. Yet all are likely.
